People who exchange emails in only English may not be aware of this problem at all, as it generally concerns with the non-English languages. There are two types of users who get affected by this.
  • Users whose computers are not configured to support Unicode in a certain language. When they receive a Unicode mail in a language their system doesn't understand, they see it in a junked form which is impossible to understand. 
  • Even ordinary users, who have Unicode support properly configured in their systems sometimes receive this kind of junk in emails. This is not spam. It is proper email text sent by someone in a non-English language that supports Unicode encoding.  

People exchanging mails in Unicode enabled Indian languages, including Hindi, in their mails are increasingly getting affected to this problem probably generated by a not-so-efficient implementation of UTF-8 encoding in various Email services. These email services are sometimes not able to assign proper UTF-8 encoding to the Unicode text entered by the users in their emails. The mail reaches the destination in a jumbled, junked form which is not understandable by humans.

  • उन लोगों को जिनके कंप्यूटरों में यूनिकोड समर्थन मौजूद है लेकिन फिर भी किसी ईमेल सेवा में यूटीएफ-8 एनकोडिंग का पूर्ण समर्थन मौजूद न होने या त्रुटिपूर्ण समर्थन मौजूद होने के कारण जो इस समस्या का सामना करते हैं।
